Tess Filip, M.A.
Graduate Trainee - Clinical Science

Tess is a fourth year student at the University of Iowa's Psychological and Brain Sciences

doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. She received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of

Michigan in 2015 and her Master of Arts in clinical psychology at the University of Iowa in 2023.

Before starting graduate school, Tess worked in Los Angeles at a clinical pharmaceutical trial

research setting and at the University of California, San Diego in the Cognitive Dynamics Lab as

a research associate working with adults with psychosis. Tess' research interests include

utilizing mobile technologies to better detect and understand symptoms of psychotic disorders

and social/environmental factors that may improve functioning in people with serious mental

illness. Specifically, she is interested in the potential use of geolocation derived mobility indices

as a digital phenotype of negative symptoms of schizophrenia and how contextual factors (e.g.,

green space exposure, community engagement) may influence these symptoms and, ultimately,

functioning. Clinically, she has previously worked as a case manager in a post-acute care

residential facility for individuals with serious mental illness. She is looking forward to starting a

clinical practicum at the Iowa City VA in the Acute Mental Health Care Unit in the Fall. She enjoys

cooking, traveling, and learning Korean.
